A Taj Mahal tour package can mean anything from a single day trip out of Delhi to a six-day journey that also takes in Jaipur. The right one depends on how much time you have and how you want to experience the monument.
This guide compares the three most popular ways to visit, what each includes and costs, and when to go.
Three ways to see the Taj Mahal
| Package | Duration | Starting price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same day Taj Mahal & Agra tour | 12 to 14 hours | ₹4,499 per car | Layovers, business travellers and short stays |
| Overnight Agra trip (custom) | 2 days / 1 night | On request | Sunrise at the Taj Mahal and a more relaxed pace |
| Royal Golden Triangle Tour | 5 nights / 6 days | ₹14,999 per person | First-time visitors who want Delhi, Agra and Jaipur |
Option 1: same day from Delhi
Leave Delhi early in a private car or take the Gatimaan Express, see the Taj Mahal with a licensed guide, visit Agra Fort and Mehtab Bagh, and return the same evening. It is fast and efficient. Read the full plan in our same day Agra Taj Mahal tour guide.
Option 2: overnight in Agra
Staying overnight lets you enter at sunrise, when the crowds are thin and the marble changes colour in the early light. It also gives time for Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital, and for a slower dinner and rest. We can arrange this as a custom plan, so tell us your dates and group size.
Option 3: the Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle ties the Taj Mahal into the classic Delhi, Agra and Jaipur route. In our 5 night / 6 day tour the Taj Mahal is a sunrise visit on day three, followed by Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and the drive to Jaipur. Highlights include a rickshaw heritage walk in Old Delhi and a jeep ride up to Amber Fort. It includes a dedicated vehicle, tolls, parking, driver allowance and licensed guides at each monument.
What to see in Agra besides the Taj Mahal
- Agra Fort: the red sandstone Mughal fortress on the Yamuna.
- Mehtab Bagh: a garden with a view of the Taj Mahal from across the river.
- Itimad-ud-Daulah: the “Baby Taj”, a small marble tomb with fine inlay.
- Fatehpur Sikri: an abandoned red sandstone city with the Buland Darwaza gate.
- Sikandra: the tomb of Emperor Akbar, set in quiet gardens.
Best time to visit the Taj Mahal
The most comfortable months are October to March, with clear skies and mild temperatures. In December and January, early-morning fog can hide the Taj Mahal, so keep your plans flexible. Summers are very hot, so go at sunrise and finish before midday. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. Night viewing is limited to a few evenings around the full moon and tickets are limited, so ask us if you want to try it.
Which Taj Mahal package should you choose?
- One free day or a layover: the same-day tour.
- A romantic trip or photography: overnight in Agra for sunrise.
- First time in India, 5 to 6 days: the Golden Triangle.
- More time and want the desert and lakes: extend into Rajasthan with our Rajasthan tour packages.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Taj Mahal tour package?
It depends on your time. The same-day tour suits a single free day, an overnight trip gives you sunrise at the Taj, and the Golden Triangle suits first-time visitors with five or six days.
How much does a Taj Mahal tour package cost?
Our same day Taj Mahal tour starts from ₹4,499 per car and the 6-day Golden Triangle from ₹14,999 per person. Entry tickets are paid separately.
When is the Taj Mahal closed?
The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.
Is sunrise or sunset better at the Taj Mahal?
Sunrise is usually quieter and the light is soft, which makes it popular for photography. Late afternoon views from Mehtab Bagh are a good alternative.
Can I combine the Taj Mahal with Jaipur?
Yes. The Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur) is the classic combination and can be extended into other parts of Rajasthan.
